Background Story
The client is one of the leading hotels in JBR and recently conducted an energy efficiency retrofit for multiple energy-consuming equipment, including chillers, FAHUs, and pumps. The client approached Ark Energy to digitalize their energy management system to monitor energy performance, provide data analytics for optimizing energy consumption, and enable automated energy and M&V reporting in line with IPMVP standards.
Challenge
The issue arises that the client requires digitalized M&V reporting with advanced analysis, particularly because the retrofit included multiple ECMs (Energy Conservation Measures). The complexity of tracking and evaluating the performance of each ECM necessitated a more sophisticated approach to M&V reporting. In addition, adopting a cloud-based energy management software globally remains a challenge for large organizations due to cyber threats, which can undermine the security and integrity of the data. This made the implementation of a secure, scalable, and effective solution even more critical to ensure accurate and reliable energy performance data.
Main Objective
The primary objective of this activity was to integrate an energy management system that would tackle the client’s need for high-resolution data analysis and adequate M&V reporting:
- Connect arkEMIS to the client’s BMS while maintaining high-security standards
- Monitor energy consumption and validate data quality
- Activate arkEMIS advanced analytics module to optimize energy usage
- Provide accurate digitalized M&V reporting using arkEMIS M&V Option C Module
Approach
The Ark Energy team collaborated with the client to install and connect arkEMIS to their BMS, followed by the activation of arkEMIS super modules, including advanced analytics and the M&V Option C Module. This approach was strategically designed to enhance the accuracy and reliability of M&V reporting, with a primary focus on accurately reflecting the actual data. Key measures implemented as part of this effort include the following:
- Connected arkEMIS to the client’s BMS, following all security protocols, energy management standards, and Ark Energy’s proprietary methodology to ensure seamless integration and data integrity.
- Activated the arkEMIS advanced analytics module, which includes machine learning and AI, to optimize energy consumption, monitor over-consumption equipment, and identify any changes in static factors affecting energy usage
- Activated the arkEMIS M&V Option C (Regression Model) to provide monthly M&V reports based on high-resolution data, ensuring accurate and detailed tracking of energy savings and performance across multiple ECMs
Results
The results that were generated from the project include the following:
- Automated notifications, alarm triggers, anomalies and drift detection
- Captured high-resolution data that is vitalized through live customized dashboards
- Ensured accurate M&V reporting in line with IPMVP standards, providing reliable monthly energy savings data for the client
